Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data BatchConnect collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It is our notice to you under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the rules made under it, and our privacy policy under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Who is responsible for your data
BatchConnect is run by [legal name: to be added], the Data Fiduciary for your personal data. You can reach us at support@batchconnect.in, and our Grievance Officer as shown at the end of this page.
What we collect, and why
- Name, college, batch, LinkedIn URL
- Your profile, so verified members know who they are talking to.
- Contact email
- Sending you login codes and notifications about your own requests. Never shown on your profile.
- Phone number (optional)
- Shared only with someone after you accept their request, or they accept yours.
- Company, designation, experience, location, past roles
- So members can find alumni inside a company.
- College ID or alumni card photo (only if you sign up without a college email)
- Checking that you studied where you say. Deleted once it has been reviewed.
- Resume files, job links, notes
- Sending a referral request to the one member you choose.
- Messages, Circle questions and answers, votes, reports
- Running those features, and keeping the community safe.
- Mentorship availability, bookings, meeting links
- Booking sessions and sending calendar invites.
- Payment details (once online payments start)
- Collected and held by Razorpay, not by us. We keep only the payment reference, amount and status.
- When you accepted these terms, and which version
- A record of your consent.
- Technical logs and crash reports
- Keeping the service working and secure.
We use this data only for these purposes, on the basis of your consent, which you give when you create your profile, and where the law requires it (for example, keeping payment records for tax). We never sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers or recruiters, and we do not use it to train AI models.
Who can see what
- Verified members see your name, college, batch, company, designation, experience, location, past roles, LinkedIn and the badges you have earned.
- Your email is never shown to members. We use it only to send you codes and notifications.
- Your phone number is shown only to a member whose request you accepted, or who accepted yours.
- Your resume opens only for the person you sent it to, through a link that expires within minutes.
- Your ID card is seen only by our administrators, and deleted once it has been reviewed.
- Anonymous questions and answers in the Circle never show your name to other members, and the app hides it from administrators too.
- People who are not members see nothing about you.
Service providers and where your data is
These companies process data for us under contract, only to provide the service:
- Supabase
- Database, login and file storage. Location: India (Mumbai).
- Vercel
- Running the website. Location: India (Mumbai), with a global network for delivery.
- Google (Gmail)
- Sending emails. Location: Google’s data centres, which may be outside India.
- Sentry
- Crash reports, without what you typed or your session. Location: European Union (Germany).
- Razorpay
- Payments, once launched. Location: India.
Your account data is stored in India. Some of it (emails and crash reports) is processed outside India by the providers above, which the DPDP Act allows except for countries the Government of India restricts.
How long we keep it
- Your profile, requests, messages and posts: while your account is open.
- When you delete your account: removed at once, files included. Copies in our provider's backups expire within 30 days.
- ID card photos: deleted as soon as they have been reviewed.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting laws require, which can be up to 8 years.
- Technical logs: a few weeks.
Your rights
- See your data. Ask us, through the Contact page, for a summary of everything we hold about you, and we will send it to your registered email.
- Correct it. Edit your profile at any time.
- Erase it and withdraw consent. “Delete my account” on your Profile page removes your account and data at once. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or cannot act yourself: email us their name and contact details.
- Complain. Write to our Grievance Officer (below). If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
The Act also asks you not to impersonate anyone, not to hide information when verifying, and not to file false complaints.
Age
BatchConnect is only for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and we delete such an account as soon as we learn of it.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
To see which pages are used, we count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not identify you. Before a visit is counted, member and job ids in the page address are replaced with “[id]” and anything you searched for is removed.
Security
Access rules are enforced inside the database, not just in the app, so one member cannot read another member's hidden phone, email, resume or ID card. Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), you sign in with one-time email codes, so there are no passwords to leak, and only a small number of administrators have access. If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page and the date above, tell members in the app when a change is significant, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it. Also see our Terms of Use.
